    Between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Rio de Janeiro experienced an intensification of the internal and external migratory flow, Jews from the most varied origins arrived and settled in the city, starting the process of organizing this nucleus. This article does not, and could not, claim to exhaust the history of Jewish immigration; the objective is, rather, to be a starting point for those who would like to know a little more about the context that contributed to Jewish immigrants to settle in the city of Rio de Janeiro and start organizing the community life of the one that would come to in the 1920 and 1930 to be the largest jewish community in Brazil.

    O Rio de Janeiro entre o final do século XIX e início do século XX viveu uma intensificação do fluxo migratório interno e externo, judeus das mais variadas origens chegaram e se instalaram na cidade iniciando o processo de organização deste núcleo. Esse artigo não tem, e nem poderia ter, a pretensão de esgotar a história da imigração judaica; o objetivo, é sim, de ser um ponto de partida para aqueles que gostariam de conhecer um pouco mais sobre o contexto que contribuiu para que imigrantes judeus fixasse residência na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e dessem início a organização da vida comunitário daquela que viria a ser nas décadas de 1920 e 1930 a maior comunidade judaica do Brasil.
