    Entre 1826 y 1832 Manuel González Salmón fue primer secretario de Estado en la etapa final de la década ominosadel reinado de Fernando VII. Formado en la época del reformismo ilustrado en Alemania, había desempeñado otras misiones diplomáticas en Lisboa, Dresde o San Petersburgo. Aunque fue agraciado con nombramientos en las épocas constitucionales y sometido a purificación, su perfil se asemeja al de los realistas moderados, partidarios del reformismo administrativo sin admitir novedades políticas. El artículo discute la realidad de esa condición moderada intermedia, analiza las redes familiares y de afinidad entre la elite diplomática y plantea su adaptación al paso desde el imperio a la nación liberal favorecida por su experiencia europea y la fidelidad al monarca en su condición de altos funcionarios.

    Between 1826 and 1832 Manuel González Salmón was the First Secretary of State at the end of the ominous decade of the reign of Fernando VII. Trained at the time of enlightened reformism in Germany, he had carried out other diplomatic missions in Lisbon, Dresden and Saint Petersburg. Although he was graced with appointments in constitutional times and subjected to purification, his profile resembles that of the moderate realists, supporters of administrative reformism that did not involve political novelty. The article discusses the reality of this intermediate moderate position, analyses the family and affinity networks of the diplomatic elite and suggests that their adaptation to the empire transforming into a liberal nation was helped by their European experience and loyalty to the monarch in their status as high officials.
