    Desde 2009, la UE ha pasado por tres crisis sucesivas (la del euro, la migratoria, y la del Brexit), que se podrían considerar parte de una única crisis multidimensional. Con la finalidad de comprender mejor la situación actual del proyecto de integración y considerar si hay cabida para el optimismo, se tratará de analizar las siguientes cuestiones: 1) Como funciona la UE y cómo se forjaron las tres crisis; 2) si es realista plantearse actualmente una ampliación europea; 3) como puede la UE tratar de mantener su influencia sobre los Balcanes occidentales si la adhesión de nuestros vecinos inmediatos parece poco factible.

    Since 2009 the EU has gone through three successive crises (the euro crisis, the migration crisis and Brexit), which could be seen as part of a single multidimensional crisis. In order to understand better the current state of play of the European project and to consider whether there is room for optimism, it would be useful to analyse the following questions: 1) how the EU works and how the three crises were forged; 2) whether it is realistic to think currently about a possible European enlargement; 3) how can the EU try to maintain its influence over the Western Balkans if the accession of our immediate neighbours seems unlikely.
