La implantación de la orden clarisa en Almería fue proyectada por los ReyesCatólicos a finales del siglo XV, pero entonces no se hizo realidad. Tampoco se establecióla comunidad clarisa promovida en Vélez Rubio durante el siglo XVIII por los marqueses delos Vélez. Las clarisas, por iniciativa de la familia aristocrática de los Briceño, existen en laciudad de Almería desde hace más de un cuarto de milenio.

The establishment of the Clarissan Order in Almería was planned by the SpanishCatholic Monarchs at the end of the 15th century, but it didn’t become reality at that time.The community of the Clarissan Order promoted in Vélez Rubio during the 18th century bythe Marquises of los Vélez was not established either. The Poor Clares, on the initiative ofthe aristocratic family of “los Briceño,” have survived in the city of Almería for more than aquarter of a millennium.
