    El convento del Ángel Custodio de Granada se fundó en 1626. Las fundadoras eranreligiosas Clarisas procedentes de Estepa (Sevilla). Entre ellas se encontraba la hija del mar-qués de Camarasa, sor María de las Llagas; llegó a ser abadesa del convento durante cuarenta ycinco años. Era muy estricta con las novicias, logrando crear una comunidad muy observante.Aproximadamente treinta monjas formaban esta comunidad a lo largo del siglo XVII. Algunasde ellas procedían de la nobleza o de familias acomodadas. Mientras crecía la comunidad, laabadesa promovió la construcción de una grandiosa iglesia. El artífice fue Alonso Cano.

    The convent of the Ángel Custodio in Granada was founded in 1626. The founderswere Clarissan nuns from Estepa (Sevilla). Among them was the daughter of the Marquis ofCamarasa, Sister María de las Llagas; she held the position of abbess of the convent for forty-five years. She was very strict with the novices and succeeded in creating a community cha-racterized by strict observance. Approximately thirty nuns formed this community throughoutthe 17th century. Some of them came from the nobility and others from wealthy families. Asthe community grew, the abbess promoted the construction of a magnificent church. AlonsoCano was the architect.
