    La Edad Media sienta las bases de la iconografía de santa Clara de Asís. Vida yleyenda presentan hechos milagrosos muy representados en el arte a través de las distintasépocas y estilos artísticos. Una de las escenas más conocida es la defensa de Asís pero sonvarias las representadas en la provincia sevillana, tema de esta comunicación: El obispo deAsís entrega la Palma a santa Clara, ingreso en la vida religiosa, el rapto de su hermanasanta Inés, la bendición de los panes, santa Clara en comunidad, san Francisco y santa Clarasalvados de un incendio y el tránsito de Clara. La mayoría de estas escenas se representan enel arte pictórico barroco aunque hay notables ejemplos escultóricos. Autores como MartínezMontañés, Murillo, Valdés Leal, Juan de Espinal y Juan Ruiz Soriano son los destacados ar-tistas que las ejecutaron.

    The iconography of Saint Clare of Assisi has its foundations in the Middle Ages.Life and legend furnish us with miraculous deeds widely represented in art through differentperiods and artistic styles. One of the best-known scenes is the defence of Assisi but there areseveral others set in the province of Seville, and these are the subject of this paper: The Bishopof Assisi delivers the Palm to Saint Clare, Admission to the religious life, The abduction of hersister Saint Agnes, The blessing of the loaves, Saint Clare in the community, Saint Francis andSaint Clare saved from a fire and The passing of Clare. Most of these scenes are represented inbaroque pictorial art though there are notable sculptural examples. Painters such as MartínezMontañés, Murillo, Valdés Leal, Juan de Espinal and Juan Ruiz Soriano are the outstandingartists who executed them.
