La Plaza Fuerte de San Sebastián no fue habilitada desde comienzos del siglo XVIII, y cuando llegó la Guerra de la Convención no solo no se adecuó, sino que lo mejor de su armamento fue llevado a otros emplazamientos. Cuando llegó el ejército francés, esta se rindió sin luchar contra un enemigo, en esas condiciones invencible.
El ejército francés armó la Plaza, y fi rmada la paz la entregó a las autoridades civiles de la ciudad con un equipamiento militar muy superior al que dejó el ejército español.

The Fort of San Sebastian had not been outfitted since the early 18th century, and when the War of the Convention broke out not only was it not made ready, but the best of its armaments were taken to other sites. When the French army arrived, it surrendered without a fi ght to an enemy that under such circumstances was invincible.
The French army armed the Fort, and once the peace treaty had been signed handed it over to the city’s civil authorities with far better military equipment than the Spanish army had left behind.

Donostiako Gotorlekua ez zen gaitu XVIII. mendearen hasieraz geroztik, eta Konbentzioaren Gerra iritsi zenean ez zen egokitu; aitzitik, armamenturik onena beste leku batzuetara eraman zuten. Frantziako armada iritsi zenean, errenditu egin zen, baldintza horietan garaiezina zen etsaiaren aurka borrokatu gabe.
Frantziako armadak Gotorlekua armatu zuen, eta, bakea sinatu ondoren, hiriko agintari zibilei entregatu zien, Espainiako armadak utzitakoa baino ekipamendu militar askoz handiagoarekin.
