    La Santa Escuela de Cristo fue fundada en Cabra en el año 1669, bajo la protección ypatronazgo del conde de Cabra y duque de Sesa don Francisco Fernández de Córdoba. Más adelante,en 1681, se estableció allí un Hospital con el título de Jesús Nazareno. Ambas instituciones estabansometidas a una Junta de Ancianos. El Hospital se destinó, al principio, a mujeres enfermas solamente,al existir ya un hospital de hombres en el pueblo. La política desamortizadora del Gobierno español,en la primera mitad del siglo XIX, en lo relativo a las propiedades del clero en general, tuvo unaespecial incidencia en el futuro de la Santa Escuela de Cristo y de su hospital.

    The Holy School of Christ was founded in Cabra in the year 1669, under the protectionand patronage of the Count of Cabra and Duke of Sesa, don Francisco Fernández de Córdoba. Lateron, in 1681, a Hospital was established there with the title of Jesús Nazareno. Both of them wereliable to the discipline of an Old Men Board. The Hospital was first intended to receive ill womenonly, as there was already a hospital for men in the village. The disentailment politics of the SpanishGovernment in the first half of the 19th century, regarding the ecclesiastical properties in general,had a special incidence in the future of the Holy School of Christ and its Hospital.
