Resumen de Introducción a las categorías marxistas en “Tiempos modernos” de Charles Chaplin

En este artículo se expone una de las obras cinematográficas del genio del séptimo arte, Charles Chaplin, “Tiempos modernos”, si bien no es la obra maestra de Chaplin, presenta una historia que facilita explicar algunas de las categorías del pensamiento marxista de forma didáctica. Metodológicamente se delimitó el objeto de reflexión y se diseñó el esquema de investigación, se determinaron y analizaron las fuentes de información y se redactó el artículo. Escrita, dirigida y siendo él mismo, protagonista de la historia, nos permite observar las condiciones desesperadas de vida de un obrero de la industria en tiempos de la Gran Depresión y el fordismo, condiciones que le van restando su humanidad y lo van convirtiendo en un apéndice de la máquina. Con o sin intención, Charles Chaplin, desarrolla categorías marxistas que permiten explicar las condiciones de la década de los años treinta y las condiciones de nuestra realidad concreta. Genio y figura, su imagen es reconocida incluso por aquellos que jamás han visto una de sus cintas, “Tiempos modernos” es pues, el material filmográfico eje del presente artículo.

This article presents one of the cinematic works of the genius of the seventh art, Charles Chaplin, “Modern Times”, although it is not Chaplin’s masterpiece, it presents a story that helps to explain some of the categories of Marxist thought in a didactic way. Methodologically, the object of reflection was delimited and the research scheme was designed, the sources of information were determined and analyzed, and the article was written. Written, directed and being himself, protagonist of the story, it allows us to observe the desperate conditions of life of a worker in the industry in times of the great depression and Fordism, conditions that are taking away his humanity and are turning him into an appendix of the machine. With or without intention, Charles Chaplin, develops Marxist categories that allow to explain the conditions of the thirties and the conditions of our concrete reality. Genius and figure, his image is recognised even by those who have never seen one of his films. “Modern Times” is therefore the film material at the heart of this article
