Resumen de El clero y el fisco regio: un ensayo comparativo entre los reinos de Francia y de Castilla en el siglo XVI

La contribución del clero a la real hacienda planteaba numerosos conflictos en las relaciones entre la Monarquía, la Iglesia y la Santa Sede en las potencias católicas. En esta pugna, el clero de Francia y de España pudieron apoyarse para defenderse de las apetencias reales en sólidas bases doctrinales y jurídicas, comunes a ambos reinos, como eran las contenidas en los cánones de los concilios, los decretos pontificios o en la propia legislación real. No obstante, los sistemas y las prácticas fiscales no eran los mismos en uno y otro reino. También era diversa la organización institucional de sus iglesias o el papel que se reconocía al romano pontífice en las negociaciones entre los dos poderes o la forma en que se había tratado de resolver en ellos el problema de la representación del clero y el de su consentimiento al impuesto. Por lo tanto, el objeto de este artículo es analizar la solución divergente que se dio a un mismo problema en Francia y en España a lo largo del siglo XVI.

The contribution of the clergy to the royal treasury raised many conflicts in the relations between the Monarchy, the Church and the Holy See in the Catholic countries. In this struggle, the clergy of France and Spain were able to rely on solid doctrinal and juridical foundations, common to both kingdoms, to defend themselves against the royal demands, as were those contained in the canons of the councils, the pontifical decrees or in the royal legislation itself. However, the tax system and the fiscal practices were not the same in both countries. The institutional organization of their churches, the role recognized to the Roman pontiff in the negotiations between the two powers, the way in which the representation of the clergy was solved and the question of their consent to the tax were also different. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to analyze the divergent solution given to these problems in France and Spain throughout the 16th century.
