    La Ley 42/2007 y su reglamentación determinan que debe elaborarse un Inventario Español de Lugares de Interés Geológico (IELIG). El IELIG pretende cubrir la totalidad del territorio español e integra los Lugares de Interés Geológico (LIG) inventariados por el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME) y sus colaboradores y aquellos LIG incluidos en los inventarios de las comunidades autónomas. El IELIG trata de cubrir todas las especialidades de la Geología, por lo que a cada LIG se le asigna un tipo de interés principal y uno o más tipos de interés secundario. A diferencia de los demás tipos de interés, la Historia de la Geología no define una categoría de LIG concreta, pues su interés radica en el papel que el lugar ha jugado en el desarrollo de la Geología como Ciencia, es una tipología singular que merecen un análisis individualizado. El objetivo del trabajo es examinar qué LIG se han calificado según el tipo de interés Historia de la Geología, si dicha califica- ción está justificada, cuál es su relevancia, sus tipologías, distribución espacial y valoración. A partir de dicho análisis, se han determinado las características típicas de los LIG con interés para la Historia de la Geología y se plantean posibles mejoras del IELIG.

    Law 42/2007 and its derivative regulations specify that a Spanish Inventory of Geosites (IELIG) must be carried out. The IELIG intend to cover the entire Spanish territory and integrates the Geosites (LIGs) inventoried by the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) and its collaborators and those LIGs included in the inventories of the autonomous communities. The IELIG must cover all the specialties of Geology, so to each LIG a type of principal interest and one or more secondary interest types are assigned. Unlike the other types of interest, History of Geology does not define a specific type of LIG, since its interest lies in the role that the site has played in the development of Geology as Science; it is a special typo- logy, so it deserves an individualized review. The aim of this paper is to review which LIG have been labelled with History of Geology interest, if this qualification is justified, what is the relevance of that sites, their typologies, spatial distribution and evaluation. From this study, the most typical characteristics of the LIGs with interest for the History of Geology have been determined and possible improvements of the IELIG are proposed.
