  • Researches into modern sculpture over the past 20 years have undergone important changes. If the 1960s and 1970s saw general works dealing with the first generation of “post-Rodin” sculptors, these had almost completely disappeared by 1980 to be replaced by more selective studies. This article reviews the literature—books, exhibition catalogs, theses—and institutional developments relating to such matters as acquisition patterns since 1980. The aim is to show the progress that has been made in modern sculptural studies and the areas that remain to be explored.
