  • Resumen
    • Part of a special section on 19th-century sculpture. In the 1970s, the reevaluation of 19th-century sculpture began in Denmark. One of the starting points for this was the study and restoration of the royal collection of castings—2,000 plasters that had been stored in poor conditions for many years. Other museum collections that include 19th-century sculpture have since been documented. In 1986, a landmark exhibition of the work of Hermann Ernst Freund (1786–1840) was held at the Statens Museum for Kunst. The Carlsberg Glyptotek held an exhibition of its exceptional collection of Rodin's work in 1988. Other galleries, such as the Bertel Thorvaldsen gallery, have been dedicated to single sculptors. In Sweden, the Orangerimuseet, a new museum of sculpture dedicated to the period from 1600 to 1900, has opened.
