The renewed interest in Spanish painting and architecture, which occurred in the 1970s, did not extend to sculpture, where studies have been limited. For various political, economic, and social reasons, 19th-century Spanish sculpture has not experienced the same spectacular developments as other countries. Its position remains inferior to that of painting.
