Part of a special section on 19th-century sculpture. The writer discusses publications and studies of 19th-century German sculpture. Apart from certain works from various regions, an overall analysis of works from the German-speaking countries is lacking. The study of the theories of 19th-century German sculpture also presents some gaps. Existing works confine their analyses to the tenets of Classicism or to those of Adolf Hildebrand. Researchers are only interested in the masters of Classicism and the founders of Modernity. The decades that separate the two movements are not taken into account
