  • Resumen
    • This article describes how, from 1841 to 1867, the Italian born sculptor, Carlo Marochetti, used photography to promote his art. Rootless, but constantly seeking to extend the sphere of his activities, Marochetti used the new invention to familiarize a distant clientele with his productions. The search lead to the establishment, in the early 1860s, of a mutually advantageous relationship between Marochetti and the London-based photographer Camille Silvy. Silvy's carte de visite portraits showcased the sculptor's works. Marochetti's royal and aristocratic patrons were drawn to the photographer's studio. For both, the trump card was royal patronage. It is argued that this intensive exposure to photography effected the character of Marochetti's later work
