  • Resumen
    • The creation of a competitive examination in sketching at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1816, far from being exclusively technical and administration was above all esthetic in nature. Probably created at instigation of Quatremère de Quincy, the new perpetual secretary of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, this examination was one of a range of statutory measures designed to reorganize the field of Fine Arts during the Restoration. The relative lack of interest shown by painters and the adhesion of the sculptors belonging to a certain classical tradition towards this examination, are proof, moreover, of the resistance of sculpture in relation to the appearance of new artistic trends.
