    Las infecciones oportunistas en pacientes con infección por el VIH son una importante causa de morbimortalidad. La mejor estrategia para prevenirlas es un tratamiento antirretroviral adecuado, con una buena adherencia por parte del paciente. Sin embargo, cuando se produce un descenso de linfocitos CD4 por debajo de 200 cél/μl, la prevención primaria y secundaria de infecciones oportunistas es esencial para mejorar la calidad de vida de estos pacientes y disminuir su morbimortalidad.

    Opportunistic infections are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with HIV infection. The best strategy for preventing them is appropriate antiretroviral treatment with a good adherence on the part of the patient. However, when there is a decrease in CD4 lymphocytes below 200 cells/μl, primary and secondary prevention of opportunistic infections is essential for improving quality of life and decreasing its morbidity and mortality in these patients.
