  La diabetes mellitus, la insuficiencia renal crónica, la cirrosis y la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica tienen en común su alta prevalencia en la población a nivel mundial, presentar comorbilidades (relacionándose entre ellas) y la alteración de la inmunidad que, afectada en mayor o menor grado, condiciona una mayor predisposición a adquirir infecciones. Los pacientes afectados por estas enfermedades también tienen en común la necesidad de una asistencia médica frecuente que predispone aún más, no solo a la infección sino a que esta sea causada por microorganismos multirresistentes. Es imprescindible un adecuado manejo de los pacientes para limitar la aparición de estas infecciones que aumentan significativamente la aparición de complicaciones y la tasa de mortalidad.

  Diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney failure, cirrhosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease all have in common a high prevalence in the population worldwide, the fact that patients present with comorbidities (related amongst themselves), and alterations in immunity which, affecting the patient to a greater or lesser extent, entail a greater predisposition to infection. Patients affected by these diseases also have in common a need for frequent medical care that predisposes them even further not only to infection, but also for this infection to be caused by multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Appropriate care for these patients is essential in order to limit the onset of these infections, which significantly increase the emergence of complications and the mortality rate.
