Resumen de «With iron and with fire»: steel in Italian industrial films

Anna Maria Falchero

  • Starting in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, the history of the modern iron and steel industry in Italy has been long and intricate. Yet it is possible to narrate some of its major turns and achievements through the artistic language of movies, particularly the industrial film documentaries commissioned by steel-making companies. As these pages aim to show, the history of the films on steel making is in itself a kind of «short story» of the Italian steel industry, as well as of the evolution of industrial cinema as a corporate communication tool. And the memory is in the archives.
