    Los procesos de urbanización de las periferias metropolitanas han sido tópicos de discusión recurrente en diversas disciplinas de las ciencias sociales. En este artículo ofrecemos un análisis etnográfico –estudio de caso– del conflicto que se detonó por la construcción del libramiento norponiente en la zona metropolitana de San Luis Potosí, entre los años 2012 y 2016, y que se prolonga hasta el presente. Los libramientos “engullen” pueblos y asentamientos rurales, y el ritmo con lo que esto sucede depende de las formas de resistencia y organización social presentes. Asimismo, las formas de cooptación e intermediarismo que emergen en el proceso, son fundamentales para entender la nueva clave de las disputas por la reconfiguración local del espacio rural.

    The urbanization processes of the metropolitan peripheries have been a recurring topic of discussion within the various disciplines of the social sciences. In this article, we offer an ethnographic analysis –case study– of the conflict that was triggered by the construction of the north-west bypass in the metropolitan area of San Luis Potosí, between 2012 and 2016 and that continues to the present. The bypasses “engulf” towns and rural settlements, the rhythm of this process depends on the forms of resistance and organization. Likewise, the forms of cooptation and intermediarism that emerge are essential to understand the new key to the disputes over the local reconfiguration of rural space.
