In this article, we analyze the process of implementation of full-time schools in Brazil, in historical context, based on Anísio Teixeira. He aimed for improvements in the quality of education, especially for the poorest families of students. Anísio Teixeira defended integral education, one of the pillars for full-time schools. The first experience in the mid-twentieth century took place in the state of Bahia. Through literature and literature review we address education initiatives full-time in the country, which has spread gradually by schools. We also dialogue with the educational legislation, aiming to understand how it has oriented practices in basic education schools. Among the main authors are Cavaliere (2003; 2009; 2010) and Teixeira (1959; 1976). The study indicates that full-time education in Brazil is still being structured, it depends on educational and investment policies.

Neste artigo analisamos o processo de implantação de escolas de tempo integral no Brasil em contexto histórico, tendo por base Anísio Teixeira. Ele almejava melhorias na qualidade da educação, principalmente para estudantes de famílias mais pobres. Defendeu a educação integral, um dos pilares para escolas de tempo integral. A primeira experiência em meados do século XX teve lugar no estado da Bahia. Por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e revisão de literatura, abordamos iniciativas de educação em tempo integral no país, a qual tem se espalhado aos poucos pelas escolas. Dialogamos também com a legislação educacional, visando compreender como ela tem orientado as práticas nas escolas de educação básica. Entre os principais autores estão Cavaliere (2003; 2009; 2010) e Teixeira (1959; 1976). O estudo indica que a educação em tempo integral no Brasil ainda se encontra em estruturação, pois depende de políticas educacionais e investimentos.
