En las ciudades más notables del siglo XVII español, existía un teatro en el que las compañías profesionales representaban las comedias de los grandes dramaturgos de esta centuria. En la ciudad de Cartagena (España) se construyó una importante casa de comedias en 1614. Un edificio en la parte noble de la ciudad que provocó un cambio social y cultural en la urbe. Además, a partir de la creación de este teatro barroco, acudieron a representar las compañías de teatro con mejor reputación de su tiempo. Cartagena quedó integrada en el mapa escénico del siglo XVII como un lugar predilecto, creándose así un pequeño circuito teatral entre esta ciudad y la ciudad de Murcia dentro de la misma región. Este artículo presenta información, la mayoría inédita, del corral de comedias y de la vida teatral barroca en Cartagena.

n the most important cities of the Spanish 17th century, there was a theatrewhere professional companies represented the plays of the great playwrights of this century. In the city of Cartagena (Spain) an important theatre was built in 1614. A building in the noble part of the town that caused a social and cultural change in the city. Also, from the edification of this baroque theatre, the play companies with the best reputation of their time came to represent. Cartagena was integrated into the scenic map of the 17th century as a favorite place, thus creating a small theatrical circuit between this city and the city of Murcia within the same region.
