    En esta investigación se analiza el origen de la difusión del protestantismo en Puerto Rico durante el periodo 1860-1920 y su importancia para la Iglesia de hoy. En el trabajo procuramos explicar las condiciones de posibilidad que favorecieron la instalación del protestantismo en la isla caribeña, el modo en que desplegaron su accionar y la significación de la misma. Al encarar esta labor, prestaremos especial atención a los rasgos que definieron las misiones protestantes, sus sociedades religiosas atendiendo de manera particular a la piedad que propiciaron y su articulación con el modelo sociocultural que buscaban extender en la sociedad puertorriqueña.

    This research analyzes the origin of the spread of Protestantism in Puerto Rico during the period 1860-1920 and its importance for the Church of today. In the work I try to explain the conditions of the possibilities that favored the installation of Protestantism in the Caribbean Island, the way in which they deployed their actions and their significance. In doing so, I will pay special attention to the features that defined the Protestant missions, their religious societies, paying particular attention to the piety they fostered and their articulation with the socio-cultural model they sought to spread in Puerto Rican society.
