    El documento analiza el proceso migratorio de centroamericanos hacia los Estados Unidos de América (EEUU) en su paso por México. Se examina el contexto de origen de la migración, su dinamismo y el comportamiento que observa en México. La discusión de la política y la gestión migratoria tienen un lugar central en el documento, así también las limitantes que la política migratoria enfrenta y la forma en que las repercusiones se entrelazan en la socioeconomía de las fronteras mexicanas.

    Las relaciones económicas con EEUU y de vecindad con los países centroamericanos significan para México retos para mantener el equilibrio migratorio. La propuesta de México ha sido atender las causas de la migración en los países de origen, con inversiones y generación de ingreso y empleo. Sin embargo, aunque la economía es fundamental, es también insoslayable la atención a la precaria situación social y de acceso a servicios, a disminuir la inseguridad o fomentar la vida democrática. Ante esa complejidad el reto es, entonces, impulsar acciones integrales y en diferentes niveles de gobierno, tanto en los países de origen como de destino. Se trata de lograr que la migración sea un opción y no una obligación para conservar la vida.

    The paper analyzes the migratory process of Central Americans to the United States of America (USA) as they pass through Mexico. It examines the context of origin of migration, its dynamism and the behavior of the migration process observed in Mexico. The discussion of migration policy and management have a central place in the document, as well as the limitations it faces, or the way in which the repercussions are intertwined in the socio-economy of the Mexican borders.

    The economic relations with the United States and neighborly relations with Central American countries mean challenges for Mexico to maintain the migratory balance. Mexico’s proposal has been to address the causes of migration in the countries of origin, with investments and generation of income and employment. However, although the economy is fundamental, it is also unavoidable to pay attention to the precarious social situation and access to services, to reduce insecurity or promote democratic life.

    Given this complexity, the challenge is, then, to promote comprehensive actions and at different levels of government, both in the countries of origin and destination. It is about making migration an option and not an obligation to preserve life.
