El origen de la imprenta en Córdoba

    El artículo propone una reinterpretación acerca del origen de la imprenta manual en Córdoba a mediados del siglo XVI a la luz de las nuevas aportaciones bibliográficas. Hasta la fecha, solo la tipobibliografía de Valdenebro de 1900 teorizaba acerca de cuáles fueron los motivos principales por los que se asentó el primer impresor en la ciudad. Desde entonces, nuevas aportaciones bibliográficas han sido descubiertas y catalogadas, ampliando la cantidad de obras impresas conocidas en la primera etapa (1555-1583). El estudio material y de contenido de estas nuevas ediciones permite revisar la teoría de Valdenebro y realizar una nueva hipótesis en la que se propone como acicate para la instauración definitiva de la imprenta en la ciudad la influencia y el patrocinio del obispado y del cabildo catedralicio cordobés.

    This article re-examines the origins of printing in Córdoba in the mid-16th century in the light of new bibliographical evidence. Previously only Valdenebro, in his 1900 bibliography, speculated on the main reasons lying behind the arrival of a printing press in the city. Since then new bibliographical evidence has come to light, increasing the number of known editions produced there during the first phase of printing (1555-1583). Material analysis combined with a study of the content of these new editions allows us to question Valdenebro’s theory and to propose a new hypothesis according to which it was the influence and sponsorship of the Bishop of Córdoba and the cathedral chapter that encouraged the permanent establishment of printing in the city.
