Los ojos de Chávez: Post-Verdad y Populismo en Venezuela

    El siguiente artículo busca comprender las relaciones ambiguas que el populismo, en general, mantiene con la ‘verdad’, y con las instituciones y procedimientos democrático-liberales, a partir de un estudio empírico detallado de una concretización histórica específica. Se plantea que la diferencia con los ‘antiguos’ populismos está en una relación contingente, dinámica y momentánea entre líder y ‘pueblo’, la cual asimila a la ‘post-verdad’ a nivel discursivo y a la ambigüedad tribalizada del pueblo y a la liquidez institucional. Se propone discutir cómo ciertas características de los nuevos populismos se traducen en ‘dominación(es) sin hegemonía’ y se introducen una serie de conceptos que contribuirán al análisis de otras experiencias globales.

    The article aims at providing a novel understanding of the ambiguity and complexity of the relations that ‘new’ populisms hold with liberal democratic institutions and procedures, and with the notion of ‘truth’. The author contends that, unlike ‘old’ populisms, novel iterations are characterized by rather dynamic, ambiguous and contingent relations between the leader and the ‘people’. This is at the basis of the emergence of post-truth discourses coupled with a tribalized identity of the ‘people’ and everchanging institutional forms. While the discussion revolves around the Venezuelan case, the article provides abstract concepts and clues to analyze other ‘new’ populist experience under this conceptual armory and how this socio-historical interlocking of post-truth, tribalism and liquidity is translated into modes of domination without hegemony.
