La inauguración del hotel Reina Cristina a principios del siglo XX, hizo de Algeciras uno de los centros turísticos de invierno y primavera que, durante las primeras décadas del nuevo siglo, en opinión de la prensa inglesa de la época, rivalizó con éxito con los de la Riviera francesa como destino de los viajeros británicos. En dicho período, Algeciras fue visitada por algunos de los mejores pintores impresionistas ingleses que mostraron su visión de la ciudad y su entorno en las más importantes galerías de arte europeas de su tiempo

The opening of the Reina Cristina hotel at the beginning of the 20th century made Algeciras one of the winter and spring tourist resorts which, in the opinion of the English press of the time, successfully rivalled those of the French Riviera as a destination for British travellers during the first decades of the new century. During this period, Algeciras was visited by some of the best English impressionist painters who showed their vision of the city and its surroundings in the most important European art galleries of their time.
