Resumen de Analog in transmedia: use of modern board game as central media of transmedia product

Vitória Azevedo

  • The transmedia narrative, or also called storytelling, a method already consecrated in today's society, has been presented in different formats, combinations and variations, reaching a level where a single universe is alive in the most different possible media, whether digital or not. However, the vast majority of broadcasters' products have as their central media, products and contents related to the digital media, such as cinema and games, because of their capacity to provide more content in a quick and interactive way as well as facilitate the viewer concentration. But, why not try to use analog media as the main one of a transmissible product, such as illustrated prints, plays, or a game book. Over time, these "analog" media have been transformed gaining meaning, for example the case of illustrated prints, and its possibility of narrative construction. Based on the concepts of transmigration presented by Jenkins (2009) and Phillips (2012), I present in this article the possibility to have these "analogical" media as the focal point of a transmedia narrative - with modern board game - nowadays. This article seeks to analyze the aspects involved in the modern board game that makes it adequate to become the center of this new way of telling stories, and based on this study, the experimentation of a modern board game in the construction of a narrative for the transmedia in question.
