    El artículo revisa las investigaciones y la literatura en torno a la participación ciudadana especialmente de los jóvenes. Revisa algunas de las diversas definiciones que se han hecho de este concepto y la evolución histórica de Ésta en Chile. Profundiza en las implicancias de la participación ciudadana en las sociedades democráticas, a través de los beneficios que reporta para los individuos y comunidades. Se enfatiza además cómo esta participación podría ser diferente o no en hombres y mujeres jóvenes en la sociedad chilena

    The article reviews the investigations and the literature especially in relation to civic participation of theyoungsters. Diverse definitions of this concept and its historical evolution in Chile are reviewed. It deepens into the consequences of the civic participation in the democratic societies, through the benefits that it reports for the individuals and their communities. The fact that this participation could be different for young men and young women is also emphasized.
