Resumen de Patrimonio e Identidad: la quema de la estatua de Francisco de Aguirre

  La presencia de estatuas de conquistadores hispanos es habitual en muchas ciudades chilenas y latinoamericanas, y conforman una parte de nuestro acervo patrimonial. Sin embargo, eso no significa que haya consenso en cuanto a su presencia en el espacio público. Este artículo analiza la quema de la estatua de Francisco de Aguirre en La Serena como un caso de subversión a las narrativas históricas hegemónicas de una ciudad que consagra una herencia colonial neutralizando la diversidad histórica y actual de su comunidad. Para ello, se realiza el seguimiento a la cobertura que un medio de prensa de la ciudad realiza sobre este hecho, concluyendo que esta figura histórica configura un patrimonio negativo que evidencia el trasfondo político del proceso de patrimonialización, y que instala la necesidad de constituir patrimonios culturales más representativos, diversos y que gestionen el conflicto en vez de eludirlo.

  The presence of statues of Hispanic conquerors is common in many Chilean and Latin American cities, and make up a part of our heritage collection. However, this does not mean that there is consensus on their presence in the public space. This article analyzes the burning of the statue of Francisco de Aguirre in La Serena as a case of subversion of the hegemonic historical narratives of a city that consecrates a colonial heritage neutralizing the historical and current diversity of its community. To this end, the coverage that a media outlet in the city carries out on this fact is monitored, concluding that this historical figure constitutes a negative heritage that demonstrates the political background of the process of patrimonialization, and that establishes the need to constitute more representative, diverse cultural heritages that manage the conflict instead of avoiding it.
