Objeto: Este capítulo presenta los resultados de una investigación que se realizó con el objetivo de identificar las capacidades de innovación empresarial en mipymes de Palmira – Valle del Cauca que han participado en programas de fomento a la innovación. Las mipymes presentan diversas dificultades que limitan su competitividad. Entre las principales limitaciones se encuentra la baja capacidad innova-dora, que se refleja tanto en los reportes de competitividad como en los de innovación. Referentes Teóricos:Las capacidades de innovación se analizaron a la luz de referentes como el (BID, 2014), (Yam et al., 2004), y (Nadler & Tushman, 1997). Aspectos metodológicos: Hace referencia a un estudio de caso múltiple con estudio exploratorio y descriptivo; se aplicó un instrumento para identificar las capacidades de innovación en el grupo de empresas participantes. Resultados: Los resultados reflejan que las empresas analizadas presentan un nivel medio y bajo de capacidades para innovar, la capacidad de direccionamiento estratégico se encuentra en un nivel medio de desarrollo, las demás capacidades se encuentran en un nivel bajo; llamando la atención que el 79% tiene deficiencia en la capacidad de relacionamiento, lo que evidencia la importancia de fortalecer las capacidades para lograr mejorar los resultados de innovación. Conclusiones: Esta investigación, resalta la importancia de investigar sobre las capacidades de innovación empresarial y su impacto para generar resultados efectivos de innovación, esto si se quiere contribuir al desarrollo económico del país. Adicional a ello, se plantearon los retos organizacionales para lograrlo

An exploratory and descriptive study applied an instrument to identify innovation capabilities in the group of participating companies. The companies analyzed were found to have a medium and low level of capability to innovate, highlighting the importance of strengthening capabilities to improve innovation outcomes. Conclusions: This research highlights the importance of research on business innovation capabilities and their impact to generate effective innovation results, this if we want to contribute to the economic development of the country. In addition to this, the organizational challenges to achieve this were raised.
