El paciente terminal o enfermedad terminal es un término que se utiliza cuando una enfermedad ya no tiene cura o ya no puede tratarse de manera adecuada y lo que se espera como final es la muerte del paciente en un periodo corto de tiempo. Cuando un cáncer se encuentra en un estado muy avanzado en el cual pueden existir hasta metástasis en los órganos más próximos al tumor, el paciente presenta ciertos síntomas que son característicos de casi todo paciente que lo padece. Es importante cuando un paciente se encuentra en estado terminal conseguir paliar sus síntomas y que muera de una manera digna y sin dolor.

The terminal patient or terminal illness is a term that is used when a disease no longer has a cure or can no longer be treated adequately and what is expected as the end is the death of the patient in a short period of time. When a cancer is in a very advanced stage in which there may even be metastases in the organs closest to the tumor, the patient presents certain symptoms that are characteristic of almost every patient who suffers from it. It is important when a patient is in a terminal state to palliate their symptoms and to die in a dignified and painless manner.
