Resumen de "Francesco Bolognese scultore". Primatice et la chambre de la duchesse d'Étampes au château de Fontainebleau

Oriane Beaufils

  • The chamber of the Duchesse d'Etampes in the Chateau of Fontainebleau, conceived between 1541 and 1544 by Francesco Primaticcio for the fiery mistress of François Ier, is one of the most important decorations of the School of Fontainebleau. It is also one of the least known. Combining, with unequalled boldness, architecture, painting and sculpture, this decoration constitutes the apogee of the technique of stucco in the Fontainebleau creations. Imagined after the artist's return from his first stay in Rome, during which he was in contact with the Antique, but also with the art of Michelangelo. The Duchess d'Etampes' chamber belongs to the realizations of the most effusive period of the Bolognese artist in Fontainebleau. The campaign of scientific analyses and the cleaning of the decoration carried out in 2021 at the Chateau of Fontainebleau allow, for the first time, a global study of this decoration and permits the formulation of several hypotheses as to its development.
