Los atrios parroquiales fueron fundamentales para el desarrollo del ceremonial religioso y funerario durante la Edad Media en la Extremadura castellana, pero al margen de esos usos, los aldeanos los convirtieron en espacios para el desempeño de otras muchas funciones que fueron reprobadas o censuradas por las autoridades eclesiásticas. Entre las más destacadas estuvieron la asamblearia y la judicial, pero no faltaron otras manifestaciones relacionadas con el ocio popular y la celebración de multitudinarios eventos y mercados

The parish atriums were fundamental for the development of religious and funerary ceremonies during the Middle Ages in the Extremadura of Castile, but apart from these uses, the villagers turned them into spaces for the performance of many other functions that were condemned or censured by the ecclesiastical authorities. Among the most notorious were the assembly and the judiciary, but there were other demonstrations related to popular leisure and the celebration of massive events and markets
