    Since 1885, the German Second Empire established a protectorate in East Africa. On the basis of fighting slavery and the slave trade, the Germans go into the region of the Great Lakes. But the slavery and the slave trade was not finish under German colonial rule. In this article we discuss the adaptation of slave labour in the German East Africa and how it was justified by authors such Fritz Weidner in his book “Domestic slavery in Eastern Africa” (1915).

    Resumo: Desde 1885, o Segundo Império Alemão estabeleceu um protetorado na África Oriental. Com base na luta contra a escravidão e o tráfico de escravos, os alemães vão para a região dos Grandes Lagos. Mas a escravidão e o tráfico de escravos não terminou sob o domínio colonial alemão. Neste artigo vamos discutir a adaptação do trabalho escravo na África Oriental Alemã e como ele foi justificado por autores tais Fritz Weidner em seu livro “Escravatura doméstica na África Oriental” (1915).
