  O envelhecimento da população mundial em especial das sociedades ditas desenvolvidas é hoje uma realidade e uma preocupação. A violência nas pessoas idosas constitui uma violação dos direitos humanos, podendo apresentar-se de várias formas e implicar a prática de vários crimes. O aumento mundial da população idosa tem sido acompanhado por importantes aspectos, dentre eles a violência contra a pessoa idosa, que merece especial atenção devido às sequelas físicas e psicológicas que acarreta. O objetivo geral deste trabalho foi analisar a incidência da violência contra pessoas idosas em Portugal. Pesquisa descritiva e retrospetivo de abordagem quantitativa. Com base nos dados apresentados nos relatórios da Associação de Apoio à Vitima (APAV). Foram analisados os dados de 2000 a 2017. Da análise dos resultados, verificamos uma tendência crescente e acentuada na incidência da violência contra idosos, variando entre 280 casos em 2000 e 1208 casos em 2017. As vitimas são maioritariamente mulheres. O grupo etário dos 65 e 74/75 anos constitui o de maior representatividade, muito próximo dos 50% dos idosos violentados. A grande maioria dos agressores tem uma relação de parentesco próximo com a vitima, entre os quais se destacam os pais, os filhos e os cônjuges. Em face destes resultados, torna-se pertinente a identificação de idosos vulneráveis, com o objetivo de prevenir estas ocorrências, promovendo a sua segurança, a sua qualidade de vida e o seu bem-estar. Por outro lado, é urgente trabalhar conceitos como o respeito, a cidadania na população e geral.

  The aging of the world’s population and developed societies is now a reality and a concern. Violence among the elderly is a violation of human rights and can take many forms and involve various crimes. The increase in the elderly population worldwide shows several aspects arise, such as violence against the elderly, which deserves special attention due to the physical and psychological sequels that it entails. The general objective of this study was to analyze the incidence of violence against elderly people in Portugal. Descriptive and retrospective research of quantitative approach. Based on the data presented in the reports of the Victim Support Association (APAV). Data from 2000 to 2017 were analyzed. From the analysis of the results, we observed a growing and marked trend in the incidence of violence against the elderly, varying between 280 cases in 2000 and 1208 cases in 2017. The victims are mostly women. The age group of 65 and 74/75 years is the most representative, very close to 50% of the elderly victims. The great majority of the aggressors have a close relationship with the victim, among which the parents, the children and the spouses. In view of these results, it is pertinent to identify vulnerable elderly people, with the aim of preventing these occurrences, promoting their safety, quality of life and well-being. On the other hand, it is urgent to work on concepts such as respect, citizenship in the population and general.
