Resumen de Los fundamentos simbólicos de la acción social y su relación con los emblemas institucionales, el ceremonial y el protocolo

  Asistimos a una revalorización del simbolismo en los diversos ámbitos de la cultura. El hombre de hoy comparece como «animal simbólico», paradójico y contradictorio, no exclusivamente racional. Los símbolos no pertenecen únicamente al ámbito individual, trascienden al nivel social y se comparten con el resto de la comunidad, por eso son objeto de estudio antropológico. El presente artículo expone algunas de las categorizaciones que de los símbolos han realizado cuatro prominentes científicos sociales –Robert M. MacIver (1882-1970), Georges Balandier (1920-2016), Guy Rocher (1924) y Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002)–, seleccionando aquellas reflexiones que más tienen que ver con los llamados emblemas políticos o institucionales, el Ceremonial y el Protocolo. Los sociólogos reseñados ratifican la idea de que el mundo carece de sentido si lo escrutamos únicamente con una mirada racional y profana.

  We are witnessing a reappraisal of symbolism in different areas of culture. The people of today appear to be «symbolic animals», paradoxical and contradictory, not exclusively rational. Symbols don’t only belong to the individual sphere, they transcend to the social level and are shared with the rest of the community, that is why they are the object of anthropological study. This article explains some of the categorisations that have been made by 4 prominent social scientists, – Robert M. MacIver (1882-1970), Georges Balandier (1920-2016), Guy Rocher (1924) and Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002)– selecting those musings that most have to do with what we know as «political or institutional emblems», ceremonials and protocol. The aforementioned sociologists ratify the idea that the world makes no sense if we scrutinise it solely with a profane and rational eye.
