La percepción social de la Geografía en España. El papel de las pruebas de acceso a la universidad

    La Geografía suele ser percibida socialmente como un saber enciclopédico, de carácter descriptivo y, por consiguiente, poco científico y aplicable. La Geografía escolar juega un papel importante en la creación de esta imagen social de la disciplina. Las pruebas de acceso a la universidad, actualmente conocidas como Evaluación del Bachillerato para el Acceso a la Universidad (EBAU), son uno de los principales instrumentos que la Geografía universitaria posee para influir en la enseñanza de la Geografía en niveles preuniversitarios y, por consiguiente, en la percepción social que los estudiantes tienen de la disciplina. En este artículo, analizamos las EBAU de Geografía del curso 2020/21 de las distintas Comunidades Autónomas españolas para comprobar la idea de la disciplina que transmiten. Los resultados revelan como las EBAU de Geografía incluyen ejercicios de carácter memorístico, descriptivo y bajo nivel cognitivo que pueden promover una visión tradicional de la Geografía, dificultando el cambio de percepción social de esta disciplina.

    Geography is often socially perceived as an encyclopaedic knowledge, descriptive in nature and, consequently, not very scientific and applicable. School Geography plays an important role in the creation of this social image of the discipline. The University Entrance Exams (UEE) are one of the main instruments that Geography at the university level has to influence the teaching of Geography at pre-university levels and, consequently, the social perception that students have of the discipline. In this article, we analyse the UEE of Geography for the academic year 2020/21 in the different Spanish Autonomous Communities to check the idea of the discipline that they transmit. The results reveal how the UEE of Geography include low-cognitive exercises of a memorising and descriptive nature that can promote a traditional view of Geography, making it difficult to change the social perception of this discipline.
