    O exílio é um tema bastante presente na produção literária inglesa. Apartar-se da comunidade representa não só o rompimento dos laços sociais, mas também a transformação de um mero personagem em herói. Nosso artigo tem como proposta analisar a temática do exílio na figura de Hereward, a partir da Gesta Herwardi Saxonis, produzida no século XII, cujo contexto trata do estabelecimento da monarquia normanda na Inglaterra.

    Exile is a frequent theme in medieval English literature. In this literary genre to leave a community not only represented breaking with the social bounds but also the transformation of an ordinary character into a hero. It is the aim of this article to analyze the theme of exile through the figure of Hereward in the twelve-century Gesta Herwardi Saxonis, which context approaches the Norman monarchy establishment in the island.
