  El arteterapia es una disciplina en búsqueda de consolidar su reconocimiento social como campo profesional al servicio del cuidado de la salud mental y del fomento al desarrollo huma-no. Desde sus inicios a mediados del siglo XX, sus procesos de evo-lución, diversificación y expansión por el mundo han ido sucediéndose a ritmos distintos. En este texto, se presentará una mirada general sobre el estado del arte de dicha actividad laboral en el contexto internacional, principalmente con el interés específico de situar en contraste los aspectos más relevantes contenidos en los criterios formales para su ejercicio, que son planteados actualmente por algunos de los organismos de gran in-fluencia en este tema. Es decir, se abordarán los destacados esfuerzos pioneros con los que se procura atender y dar una respuesta pertinente a la apremiante necesidad de regulación de la práctica arte-terapéutica, los cuales, constituyen referentes fundamentales para la consecución del objetivo de lograr el asentamiento de la profesión.

  Art therapy is a discipline in search of consolidating its social recogni-tion as a professional field serving mental health care and promoting human development. Since its be-ginnings in the middle of the 20th century, its processes of evolu-tion, diversification and expansion throughout the world have been happening at different rates. In this text, a general look at the state of the art of said work activity in the international context will be pre-sented, mainly with the specific interest of contrasting the most relevant aspects contained in the formal criteria for its exercise, that are currently proposed by some of the organizations of great influ-ence in this matter. That is to say, the outstanding pioneering efforts with which it is sought to attend and give a pertinent response to the imperative need to regulate the art therapy practice will be ad-dressed, which constitute funda-mental references for the achieve-ment of the objective of reaching out the establishment of the pro-fession.
