    En Gipuzkoa, durante los siglos XVI y XVII, los clérigos rurales danzaban en la calle con hombres y mujeres principales. Esta situación, similar tanto en el resto de Euskal Herria como en Europa, fue cambiando durante el siglo XVII. Las reprimendas de los obispos, la instrucción del clero y la publicación de edictos y cartas pastorales (como la redactada por el obispo Juan Grande en 1691, desconocida hasta el momento y de la que se da noticia en este artículo) fueron las causas de este paulatino cambio de actitud.
