Resumen de Llegar a ser buen padre: trabajo y paternidad en hombres tutunakú de la Sierra Norte de Puebla

  Esta investigación forma parte de los estudios de género de los hombres indígenas, el objetivo es analizar el trabajo, la paternidad y prácticas de crianza de hombres tutunakú de la Sierra Norte de Puebla en dos generaciones. Investigaciones previas han documentado que la función principal de los padres indígenas es proveer y mantener la subsistencia familiar. No obstante, se debe reflexionar si a su vez, durante sus actividades cotidianas o espacios de trabajo como padres incorporan la relación con sus hijos e hijas. Para lograr lo anterior, se recurrió a la metodología cualitativa priorizando en el análisis de sentido y los significados mediante entrevistas a profundidad para conocer las trayectorias de vida. Los resultados muestran que la paternidad va más allá de la proveeduría, el trabajo permite cubrir la subsistencia familiar, pero es en las prácticas de crianza donde los hombres incorporan los cuidados, brindan enseñanzas y promueven la independencia en hijos e hijas. Cumplir con estas premisas permitirá ser valorados por la comunidad como hombres y padres responsables.

  This study is part of a larger research project on gender and indigenous men. The objective is to analyze the work activities, paternity, and fathering practices of two generations of Tutunakú men from the Sierra Norte in the state of Puebla, Mexico. Previous research has documented that the primary function of fathers in this indigenous society is to provide for, and maintain, family subsistence. However, it is necessary to reflect on whether they configure and establish relations with their sons and daughters during their daily activities as parents, or in their workspaces. To explore this, we adopted a qualitative methodology that prioritizes the analysis of meanings and significance through in-depth interviews to become familiar with their life trajectories. Results show that fatherhood goes beyond simply providing for the family. Men’s work allows them to meet their families’ subsistence needs, but it is in their parenting practices that men incorporate caring activities and foment independence in their sons and daughters. Complying with these premises allows them to be valued by the community as responsible men and fathers.
