    La fundación de la Comunidad Sudamericana de naciones (CSN) es el acontecimiento más importante que ha ocurrido en el proceso de integración de América Latina y el Caribe desde sus inicios en los sesentas; y es trascendental porque su fundación significa abordar el desafío de construcción de un mesosistema de integración regional, emprender una nueva vía y ensayar un modelo nuevo de integración regional, intentar navegar a contracorriente del proceso de las Cumbres de las Américas y de negociaciones para el ALCA, buscar un posible reposicionamiento geopolítico y geoeconómico de América del Sur en el contexto de las Américas y del mundo emergente. La fundación de la CSN se debe en gran medida al rol de Brasil como "catalizador" del proceso de integración del MERCOSUR, así como del de América Latina y el Caribe, y el rol del MERCOSUR como "centro de gravitación" entre los procesos de integración regional.

    The foundation of the Community of South American nations (CSN) is the most important event that occurred in the process of Latin American and the Caribbean integration since the 1960s. Its means to create a regional system of integration, to begin a new way of integration and to try a new model in the middle of summits and other negotiations such as ALCA. The CSN seeks a geopolitic and geoeconomic reallocation of South America in the context of the Americas and the new emergent world. The foundation of the CSN is mainly due to Brazil's role as "catalyst" of the MERCOSUR and the Caribbean and Latin America integration; and to the role of the MERCOSUR as a "gravitating center" among the regional integration process.
