Benjamin Constant, vida e história: reflexões sobre o fazer biográfico

    This article discusses my experience as a biographer of Benjamin Constant (1837-1891), synthesizing and developing some communications on the subject that I’ve presented at scientific meetings. My rela-tionship, as the author, with this personage pointed out problems that the History faces to explain issues linked to the individual and collective dimensions of social proces-ses. Also, it has shown that the historian must make choices that set him free from the illusion of recovering a past life, but, also, don’t dilute the knowledge about it in the subjectivity of biographer.

    Este artigo trata da minha experiência como biógrafo de Benjamin constant (1837-1891), sintetizando e desenvol-vendo algumas comunicações sobre o tema que apresentei em eventos cien-tíficos. O meu relacionamento, como autor, com esse personagem ressaltou problemas que a história enfrenta para explicar questões em que as dimensões individual e coletiva dos processos so-ciais se articulam. também evidenciou que o historiador precisa fazer opções que o livrem da ilusão de recuperar uma vida passada, mas, também, não diluam o conhecimento sobre ela na subjetividade do biógrafo.
