  • Resumen
    • The present study on Cosimo Fanzago starts from the main altar of the Naples church of Santa Maria la Nova (ca. 1635) and moves to Santa Maria degli Angeli alle Croci and two big marble statues begun by Fanzago around 1640 for its unfinished façade and completed only in the 18th century by Giuseppe Sanmartino for the façade of the Girolamini church. A closer look at the large marbles of "St. Peter" and "St. Paul" and at several related sketch models leads to the conclusion that the "terracotta" of "St. Paul" usually attributed to Sanmartino, now in the Museo di San Martino and previously in the Tesorone collection, must be reassigned to Fanzago.
