Today many scholars’ contributions attempt to consider both gender equality issues and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Since extant literature is copious, fragmented, and mainly focused on big firms, we see the opportunity to assess the ‘state of the art’ of existing inquiry, also identifying research opportunities targeting SMEs family businesses. To reach this aim we perform a systematic literature review linking gender and corporate social responsibility. Through a content analysis of the articles’ sample, we identify key themes, methodological approaches, and phases of research development. These efforts converge to a first, general conceptual framework that would frame the landscape of current knowledge and set the premises for advancing future research opportunities. Finally, we expand and adapt this framework to obtain a research plan tailored to gendered CSR in SMEs family businesses.
