    En A Theory of Justice, Rawls articula una teoría contractualista de justicia. El artículo indaga en la metodología justificativa de los principios de justicia que caracterizan su concepción de justicia como equidad (fairness). Esta metodología recurre a dos mecanismos distintos: la posición original y el equilibrio reflexivo. El artículo sostiene que el primer mecanismo se retrotrae al segundo, y que ambos mecanismos expresan el carácter contractualista específico de la teoría rawlsiana, como una que refiere tanto al interés propio como a la imparcialidad.

    In A Theory of Justice, Rawls articulates a contractualist theory of justice. The article explores the methodology for justifying the principles of justice that underlie his conception of justice as fairness. This methodology employs two distinct mechanisms: the original position and the reflexive equilibrium. The article contends that the former mechanism is retroactive to the latter, and that both mechanisms express the specific contractualist character of Rawlsian theory, as one that refers to both self-interest and fairness.
