  Το παρόν άρθρο ερευνά την ύπαρξη της λαϊκών θεατρικών παραστάσεων στην Κρήτη κατά την ύστερη οθωμανική κυριαρχία. Θα πρέπει να σημειωθεί ότι αυτές οι παραστάσεις δεν πραγματοποιήθηκαν κατά την περίοδο της Αποκριάς, αλλά κατά τη διάρκεια των κρητικών γάμων. Οι Κρητικοί διασκέδαζαν στους κρητικούς γάμους, που διαρκούσαν πολλές μέρες, με την πραγματοποίηση αθλητικών αγώνων και αυτοσχέδιων θεατρικών παραστάσεων. Το κείμενο μιας δημοφιλούς θεατρικής παράστασης εξάγεται από το σύντομο έπος «Κρητικός Γάμος στους Λάκκους Κυδωνίας, 1864», το οποίο γράφτηκε από τον Κρητικό επαναστάτη Χατζημιχάλη Γιάνναρη (1832-1916). Ο Γιάνναρης αφηγείται τον δικό του γάμο (ο γάμος του ποιητή) και διακωμωδεί τον έρωτα ηλικιωμένης γυναίκας και τον γάμο σε προχωρημένη ηλικία, γεγονός που έρχεται σε αντίθεση με τον αντίστοιχο γάμο του νέου ζευγαριού.

  Our article explores the existance of popular theater performances in Crete during the late Ottoman rule. It should be noted that these performances were not performed during the period of the Carnival, but during the cretan weddings. The Cretans entertained themselves in the cretan weddings, which lasted for many days, made sports matches and improvised theatrical performances. The text of the popular theatrical performance is extracted from short epic “Cretan Wedding in Lakkous Kydonia, 1864” was written by Cretan revolutionary Hatzimichalis Giannaris (1832-1916). Giannaris narrates his own mariagge (the poet’s marriage). In the theatrical event he makes fun of the amatory old woman and the marriage due to their advanced age. This situation contrasts with the matching marriage of the new couple. In the text thematic not genetic similarities are detected with ancient Mimos.
