La construcción de Ferrocarril Mexicano entre 1837 y 1873, conectando del puerto de Veracruz con la capital de México, representa un evento importante en la historia de las obras públicas y tiene un alto valor patrimonial. Tanto la cooperación internacional de los ingenieros involucrados en la realización del proyecto como las soluciones estructurales particulares, presentes en los monumentos de ingeniería civil y de arquitectura aún conservados, justifican el estudio, la popularización y la conservación de la obra. Atención especial merecen los tres trayectos abandonados desde 1983.

The construction of the Mexican Railway between 1837 and 1873, connecting the port of Veracruz with the capital of Mexico, represents an important event in the history of public works and has a high heritage value. Both the international cooperation of the engineers involved in the realisation of the project as well as the particular structural solutions, present in the monuments of c;:ivil engineering and architecture still preserved, justify the study, popularisation and conservation of the route. The three tracks abandoned since 1 98'3 deserve special attention.
